The Malawi Government has injected K99 billion into the agriculture sector, a major financial commitment aimed at strengthening irrigation farming systems and boosting productivity among smallholder farmers.
Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale made the announcement during his inspection of the Bwanje Valley and Nambuna irrigation schemes in Dedza district. He said the investment demonstrates government’s resolve to improve food security and support sustainable livelihoods for farming communities.
The irrigation initiative is currently supporting over 10,000 farmers across the country, promoting sustainable agricultural practices to enhance both productivity and environmental conservation.
“These schemes are not just about increasing yield, but about ensuring income generation and long term food stability for our farmers,” Kawale stated.
Kawale’s visit underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to transform agriculture into a more resilient and inclusive sector through modern irrigation techniques and targeted investments.
