The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Mulanje is today expected to deliver its judgment in a case of alleged negligence and grievous harm involving two police officers and a civilian, which reportedly led to the amputation of both arms of a 13-year-old boy.

The accused include Stanley Chigaru and Charles Mbewe, both officers at Misanjo Police Unit in Mulanje, and Mavuto Chikhwaza, a local businessman who owns a shop in Dzenje Village.

The incident sparked public outrage, with calls for justice from human rights groups and the general public.

The case has been under prosecution for approximately twelve months, and today’s ruling is expected to bring clarity and closure to one of the district’s most disturbing legal battles in recent memory.
