A 34-year-old driver has been arrested after hitting to death a 17-year-old boy along the Nkhatabay- Mzuzu road.
The driver has been identified as Brighton Luhanga who was driving an Ipsum Saloon with registration number BLK 3094 from Mzuzu heading to Nkhatabay.
The victim, Lyson Kaunda was during that time trying to cross the road from right hand side to the left.
“Upon reaching at Luwazi turn-off, the suspect hit the victim who was crossing the road,” said Nkhatabay police publicist, Ignatius Esau.
The vehicle had seven passengers on board but they all escaped alive.
According to Esau, the child was taken to Nkhatabay district hospital but he died while getting medical treatment.
The driver will soon appear in court to answer the charges of causing death due to reckless driving.
