Police in Nkhotakota are hunting for a driver identified as Yamikani Munthali for causing deaths due to negligence and reckless driving.

Munthali caused deaths of two people on Saturday identified as a 61-year-old Lidson Zimba and Mrs Chimunda.

On that day, He was driving a Toyota Sienta vehicle with registration number BT 9740 from Chintheche heading to the direction of Dwangwa.

While in the process, he tried to overtake a truck and later hit a 7-year-old cyclist who was crossing the road.

There was also another vehicle coming from the other side which he avoided to collide with and instead his vehicle overturned several times and stopped.

Two lives were claimed following the impact and the 7-year-old cyclist escaped with injuries.

Munthali fled from the scene before the police could come and he is still on the run.

Police are currently hunting for him over charges of causing death by reckless or negligent driving.

Zimba hailed from Malamba village and Mrs Chimunda from Luwuzi village both from T/A Kafuzila in Nkhotakota district.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Once arrested the driver will face charges of causing death by reckless or negligent driving.
