President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has rewarded Blantyre CCAP Synod General Secretary Reverend Alex Maulana for not supporting the demonstrations organized by the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) against government on the delay to table electoral reforms bill in the August House.
According to inside sources, Maulana has been appointed as Board Chairman for the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA).
The source told this publication that appointment of Maulana is a token of appreciation for not endorsing the botched December 13 national wide demonstrations.
PAC called off the demonstrations at the 11th hour after government fulfilled its promise of tabling the electoral bills including the 50+1 electoral system.
Although this was the case, government MPs franked by UDF and PP MPs ganged up and rejected the bills after receiving a bribe of MK200,000 each from President Mutharika.
On Tuesday this week, President Mutharika went to town accusing PAC of conniving with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to overthrow his leadership.
