Trouble is brewing in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) following a stand taken by former Malawi first lady Callista Mutharika to declare the country’s Vice President Saulos Chilima as the only hope for a better future and that he should lead the blue camp in the forthcoming tripartite election.

Callista’s remarks come barely a month after a certain Prophet in the capital Lilongwe prophesized that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will not contest in the forthcoming tripartite election and his decision will divide the party.

In a leaked WhatsApp post seen by faceofmalawi reporter Callista publicly disowned Mutharika’s candidature in the forthcoming polls.

“Honourable members, just to let you know that I, Callista Bingu wa Mutharika, is one member that is supporting and encouraging the Right Honourable Saulos Chilima to represent DPP as a presidential candidate in 2019… Chilima our hope for better Malawi,” wrote Callista.

The remarks have not gone down with some DPP top officials who are now baying for her blood.

“Right now I hear certain quarters are unhappy with my move and are planning to finish me. I don’t know how. This is for your information. Meanwhile, help watch and see how they will finish me,” added Callista.

Effort to talk to some officials in the ruling DPP proved futile.

Recently some quarters of the society have been all over questioning the relationship between Chilima and Mutharika with many people expressing doubt if the two are in talks.

But Mutharika blasted the clams, saying Chilima is his child.
