Northern Region Immigration Chief is in police custody for allegedly aiding foreign nationals remanded at Kachere prison in Lilongwe to escape.
National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspect as Richard Chadwala.
According to Kadadzera, Chadwala together his three juniors went to Kachere prison and ordered the release of three Ethiopians on the pretext that they wanted to deport them.
It is alleged that the immigration officials dropped foreign nationals at a businessman’s house in Salima.
Meanwhile Chadwala and his colleagues have been charged with an offence of aiding foreign nationals to escape.
