A 28-year-old woman in Mchinji has been sentenced to 2 and half years imprisonment for scalding her niece with cooking oil after she ate Soya pieces without her consent.

Appearing in court on Wednesday, the state prosecutor Davie Kusamale revealed to the court that the woman Selina Twaibu left for business on March 27 leaving the victim and other four children without food to eat.

When their stomach became dry, the children ate Soya pieces which the convict left to be used for relish on that particular day.

When she came back, she discovered the Soya pieces had been eaten by the children and this angered her such that she decided to punish them for the behavior shown.

She then took the victim and placed her hands into the boiling cooking oil.

Neigbhours learnt about the news and they reported the matter to Mkanda police unit who came to arrest the woman on the charges of Acts Intended to Cause Grievous Harm.

The victim sustained burnt blisters and she was taken to Mkanda Health Care for treatment.

Passing the judgment, First Grade Magistrate Arthur Mtalimanja sentenced the woman to 30 months IHL as a lesson to others.
