Five people have escaped alive after a Malawi government motor vehicle they were travelling in experienced brake malfunction and overturned in Mzuzu.
The incident is said to have happened on Tuesday around 0915hrs near Chiweta New Apostolic Church along Mzuzu – Karonga road.
On that day, a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number MG 792 was coming from the direction of Lilongwe heading to Karonga with three passengers from the office of the vice president and one police officer, sergeant Lukas Kapheni.
Upon reaching at Chiweta New Apostolic Church, the driver of the vehicle Mr Kazembe Mtalika failed to control the vehicle’s brakes as a result the vehicle swerved off road where it hit an embankment and overturned sideways.
Due to the impact, the driver of the vehicle sustained pain on the back, chest and on his right leg. He was referred to Luwuchi Health Centre where he was treated as an outpatient.
Sergeant Kapheni and the three passengers escaped with no injuries.
The vehicle’s wind screen got shuttered while its roof got depressed.
