Police have arrested two criminals who have been on the run after robbing a Pakistan national on 18 May 2017 in Mangochi district.

Mangochi police deputy spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi has identified the suspects as 33-year-old Leonard Kumphemba and Charles Bonongwe aged 42.

According to Daudi, on May 28 last year, the culprits broke into the house of a Pakistan businessman identified as Agoel Ashraf and stole K1.3 million, short gun, four cellphones, jewelleries and also a Toyota Spacio with registration number BS 68.

“The matter was reported to Mangochi police where we launched an investigation and on the same night we recovered the vehicle which was found dumped near Katema agricultural EPA, “Said Daudi.

She added that the two suspects had been on the run since the incident and only to be arrested recently in Lilongwe where they committed another crime.

Police managed to recover one cellphone and a short gun.

The two will answer charges of robbery with violence contrary to section 301 of the penal code.

Kumphemba hails from Mwatakata village, T/A Chimwala in Mangochi while Bonongwe hails from Kadzakalowe T/A Njolomole in Ntcheu.
