American rapper Kanye West has received a massive backlash from black community over his recent remarks saying slavery was a choice.
The artist made these remarks during his recent interview on TMZ saying that slavery in the United States (US) was a choice by those enslaved.
“When you hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years? That sounds like a choice!” Kanye said.
“Like, you was there for 400 years, and it’s all y’all? You know, it’s like, we’re mentally in prison. I like the word prison because slavery goes too direct to the idea of blacks,” Kanye continued.
“Prison is something that unites us as one race. Blacks and whites being one race,” he continued. “That we’re the human race.”
However, black people across the world have criticized the rapper describing him as a person whose senses are not okay.
“Kanye is a dangerous caricature of an “free thinking” black person in America. Frankly, I am disgusted and I’m over it. Also (I can’t believe I have to say this): Slavery was far from a choice,” a twitter user wrote.
His comments come after a series of tweets the rapper had been tweeting which also drew people’s attention. In some of the tweets, Kanye praised the current US president trump over ex-president Barack Obama.
