Member of Parliament for Mulanje South Patricia Kaliati has added her voice on the squabbles rocking the party, saying attacking supporters of the Vice President Saulos Chilima’s candidature will do more harm to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Kaliati said this in an interview with one of the local daily papers after being attacked by DPP youth cadets at Parliament accusing her of supporting Chilima’s movement.

“These dirty tactics will only help make the Veep to be more popular. In fact, the number one supporter of Saulosi Chilima is the President himself who picked him in 2014 to be his running mate. Why should I be insulted and attacked for supporting the Presidents own choice,” said Kaliati.

The whole saga was started by former first lady Callista Mutharika who publicly rejected President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s candidature in the 2019 polls, arguing that Mutharika is too old.

Callista then endorsed Chilima as the only hope for Malawi and the ruling DPP.

The idea attracted mixed reactions among Malawians with many supporting the call.
