Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that an angry mob in Bolero Township in Rumphi has destroyed several shops belonging to foreign nationals following the gruesome murder of a security guard.
Police in Rumphi have confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter.
“Brief facts of the case are that it was on 08/05/18 while at the said area the dead body was found in decomposed state by the name of Bernard Gondwe aged 47, VGE. Mayerere T/A Chikulamayembe DIST Rumphi of which Sudden Death was opened.
“Upon burial of that deceased on 09/05/28 angry members of the general community mobilized themselves to deal with the suspected Murder suspect Ali Hirawa aged 46 VGE Chibungo of Rwandan National who operate a shop at the said area as they believe he murdered the deceased person,” reads in part the statement.
Added the police report: “In their course they started breaking the shop of the suspect and situation went worst as others started looting other shops of China Qui Qui shop, Luck shop, Mandela shop of which value not yet established.”
According to police, the angry mob also injured nine police officers who were assigned to calm down the situation at the trading centre.
The report further says that two people namely; Yoswayo Jere aged 48 from village headman Gireya Jere Traditional Authority Mpherembe in Mzimba District and Alick Msukwa aged 28from Mlongoti village, Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi have been arrested.
Meanwhile the murder suspect has been handed over to the Northern Region Head Quarters (RCIO) for further investigations
