Over 100 supporters of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have been fired in the party for allegedly supporting the country’s vice President Saulos Chilima as the party’s candidate in the forthcoming tripartite election.
One of the fired supporters who is also District Secretary Fyson Makina confirmed of the development in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).
According to Makina, 113 members including him have been fired from the party for supporting Chilima.
“Officials from national governing council came on Saturday and fired 113 district committee members and replaced them with new members,” he said.
When contacted for comment DPP Secretary General Greizerder Jeffrey referred the reporter to party’s spokesperson Francis Kasaila.
Effort to talk to Kasaila proved futile.
