Information sourced by faceofmalawi indicates that the country’s vice President Saulos Chilima has rejected President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s offer to be maintained as his runningmate in the forthcoming 2019 tripartite election.

According to information at hand, Mutharika last week sent three Ministers namely; Minister of Finance Goodall Gondwe, Justice Minister Samuel Tembenu and Education Minister Bright Msaka to ask Chilima to dismiss the so-called Chilima Movement.

Mutharika also asked the three to plead with Chilima that he will be maintained as runningmate in the forthcoming tripartite election.

It is said that Chilima rejected the offer and he asked the delegation to arrange a meeting between him and the President to map the way forward.

The development resulted to the Monday meeting at Sanjika Palace in the commercial capital Blantyre.

The outcome of the meeting is not yet known at the moment.

DPP is split since former first lady Callista Mutharika publicly endorsed Chilima, saying Mutharika, her brother-in-law, is too old to contest in next year’s elections.
