40-year-old French President Emmanuel Macron has asked the democratic republic of Congo president Joseph Kabila to immediately step down and hold the country’s general elections by December this year.
Macron said this during the meeting with Angola’s president Joao Lourenco who is currently in France.
Macron appealed to President Kabila to honour an agreement brokered by the Catholic church to hold elections in DRC this year.
Kabila’s constitutional term ended in 2016 and he is not legible to contest in the next election.
However, Mr Kabila has not publicly announced that he won’t contest in the next election thereby raising fears that he may change the constitutional and want to be re-elected.
