A 46-year-old man in Chikwawa has committed suicide in an apparent move to escape justice after seriously wounding his ex-wife.
The deceased, John Singano was found dead and in a decomposed state on Friday morning within the bushes of Nsaliva Village under the area of Senior Chief Chapananga.
Chikwawa Police Station, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Constable Foster Benjamin said Singano is believed to have hanged himself on Tuesday, hours after stabbing his former wife Villa Chaima.
“Few days before the incident, the two got separated after years of marriage following some family wrangles.
“Since then, Singano had been disgruntled and envious, turning himself loose as he hatched a plot against Chaima,” he said.
Benjamin disclosed that in one incident, the former husband uprooted crops in Chaima’s field.
It is reported that police at Chapananga had, in vain tried to summon the embittered ex-husband over the issue.
On Tuesday, according to Benjamin, Singano pounced on Chaima who was on her way to the garden.
“The former wife is said to have fled into a nearby house, and was soon caught up by her ex husband who repeatedly stabbed her on the shoulders and on the arm, leaving her unconscious and for the dead,” he narrated
Benjamin said the deceased fled the scene later to be discovered dead on Friday.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Chaima is receiving treatment at Chikwawa District Hospital.
She comes from Ndeule Village while Singano hailed from Nsaliva Village both in the area of Senior Chief Chapananga in Chikwawa.
