Mangochi Second Grade Magistrate court has sentenced a 21-year-old man to 4 years in prison for breaking into another man’s liquor shop and stealing beer.

The convict has been identified as Mabvuto Ali who met his judgment on Thursday June 7.

The court heard through Mangochi Police prosecutor Sergeant Wonderful Lomoliwa that, on the night of May 31, 2018 unknown criminals broke into the liquor shop belonging to Ndogo Selistina(29) a Rwandan national based within Mangochi township.

The criminals gained access into the shop through a ceiling aperture and stole two cartons of Right Choice beer, one carton of Shooter and one carton of Superman beer, all items worthy K22,600.

Lomoliwa also said that, Mabvuto was noticed by the watchman of the shop when he was breaking away with the items.

The following day the Police recovered all the stolen cartons of spirits and apprehended Mabvuto at Maldeco trading centre where he fled to.

Appearing in court the accused person pleaded guilty as charged.

In mitigation he begged the court for a lenient penalty however the prosecutor pleaded for a stiffer penalty.

When passing judgement his worship second grade magistrate Augustine Mizaya concurred with the state hence sentenced him to 4yrs imprisonment with hard.
