A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years in prison by Mangochi First Grade Magistrate Court for breaking into woman’s house.

The convict is identified as Enock Jangiri who received the judgment on Monday, 18 June 2018.

The court heard through Mangochi Police prosecutor Sub lnspector Maxwell Mwaluka that, on the night of June 6, 2018 unknown criminals broke into a house 61-year-old Hawa Milazi within Mangochi township.

The criminals used a hook to take out three new blankets and a bed sheet worthy K75,000.00 through the window when the occupant was fast asleep.

Mwaluka also said that, few days later Enock was apprehended by Makokola Police Unit after committing other offences in the area.

Upon searching his house the officers recovered some of the stolen items.

Appearing in court the accused person pleaded guilty to all charges laid against him.

In his mitigation he begged the court for a lenient sentence. However Mwaluka pleaded for a stiffer penalty.

When passing judgement, his worship first grade magistrate Ronald M’bwana concurred with the state hence sentenced him to 8 years for Burglary and 5 years imprisonment with hard labour for the offence of theft and sentences to run concurrently.

Jangiri hails from Dzenje village in the area of Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje.
