Nanyumbu Second Grade Magistrate Court in Machinga on Friday  sentenced two men to 10 years behind bars for robbery with violence.

Machinga Police Publicist Davie Sulimba confirmed the conviction of identified Asidi Jafali 23, and Buleki Buleki 26.

Prosecutor Sergeant Beatrice Sadiya of Ntaja Police told the court that on May 26, 2018, the victims Efedi Saidi and his wife Julliet Phiri were travelling using Rico Motorcycle from Mbere Village to Nanyumbu.

“Upon arrival at Laibu Village, they met the suspects and who forced them to stop. They seriously assaulted the victims and robbed them of the motorcycle,” she said.

She  said the first victim was admitted to Machinga District Hospital for one week.

Sadiya said police investigated the issue and it led to the arrests of the two who denied the charge.

Prosecutor Sadiya paraded four witnesses who proved the matter beyond reasonable doubt and they were all finally found guilty.

In mitigation both convicts asked the court for a lenient punishment saying they are all bread winners.

Sadiya asked the court to impose a meaningful punishment to both for they committed a serious offence in nature, and that the motorcycle has not been yet recovered.

Second Grade Magistrate Maxwell Boazi concurred with the state saying their offence was contrary to section 301 of the penal code.

He sentenced them to 10 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL).

Jafali comes from Enelesi Village, while Buleki Buleki hails from Michongwe Village both from the area of Paramount Chief Kawinga in Machinga District.
