The United Democratic Front (UDF) has quashed rumours hovering on the social media indicating that the party has finalized an alliance agreement with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the forthcoming 2019 polls, saying the rumours are not true.

The social media is awash with reports that the two parties have signed a memorandum of understanding ahead of the 2019 polls which will see UDF President Atupele Muluzi being President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s runningmate.

“News just coming in, UDF and DPP have concluded their alliance agreement for 2019 Malawi Elections. Peter and Atupele will appear on their ballot. From a reliable source,” reads in part a statement posted by human right activist Billy Mayaya.

Writing on his official facebook page, UDF Publicity Secretary Ken Ndanga laughed off the claims, saying the party is not aware of such a thing.

“UDF ikaganiza zogwira ntchito ndi chipani china chirichonse pa chisankho cha 2019 sidzidzakhala zobisa.

“Nkhani ngati iyi imafunika kulingalira modekha ndikuganizira kwambiri zofuna anthu,” wrote Ndanga.

Effort to talk to DPP Spokesperson Nicholas Dausi who is also Minister of Information and Communications Technology proved futile.

Recently rumours have been all over that President Mutharika is contemplating on having Muluzi who is also Minister of Health and Population as his runningmate.

According to information at hand, some DPP top blasts are against the move and they are plotting to have former Speaker of the National Assembly Henry Chimunthu Banda partner Mutharika on the polls.
