A  43 year-old- woman, Jinse Soko has died and several passengers survived various degrees of injuries after a vehicle they were travelling in Tuesday over-turned at Matuli Bridge on Matuli- Mzuzu earth road in Mzimba District.

According to Deputy Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu Police Station, Victor Khamisi, the driver of the vehicle failed to control it due to overloading.

“The Toyota Dyna Lorry registration number ZA 6149 loaded with bricks and had passengers on board was heading to Mzuzu from Matuli and started rolling backward immediately after crossing Matuli Bridge due to overloading,” said Khamisi.

He said the driver failed to control the vehicle as it rolled backwards and ended up plunging into the dirty verge of the road before overturning and one female passenger died on the sport while other sustained minor injuries.

However, Khamisi could not confirm the number of passengers who were on board and as police are yet to collect and establish more details of the accident.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle is at-large and Khamisi said once apprehended, will appear in court of law to answer a charge of causing through reckless driving.

Soko hailed from Matitima Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba District.
