Police in Chikwawa have arrested a 23-year-old Ishmael Wadi who has been on wanted list after stealing a bicycle in 2014.

The suspect who is also a witchdoctor was nabbed  last Sunday around Mitondo market in the district.

According to the district’s police publicist, Foster Benjamin, the suspect in 2014 borrowed a bicycle from a man identified as Fred and never returned with it.

“Wadi sweet-talked Fred to borrow him a bicycle to get to a nearby grocery shop to buy cigarettes, however he did not returned the bicycle to the owner. Since then he had never been heard of until Sunday when he was spotted heading to Mitondo Market to ply his trade,” said Benjamin.

Upon being quizzed where the bicycle had gone to, the suspect claimed that some criminals robbed the bicycle.

His explanation was not convincing hence he was taken to police station for the arrest.

Meanwhile, the suspect is expected to answer theft charges soon and he is likely to be jailed for 14 years in prison if convicted.

Wadi hails from Phambala Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu District.
