The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has declared Edward Chileka Banda a winner of the controversial primary elections in Lilongwe Mapuyu South Constituency after beating incumbent Member of Parliament Joseph Njobvuyalema.

Last week MCP held primaries at Kang’oma Primary School in the constituency and the outcome of the primaries showed that Chileka emerged victor after amassing 420 votes while Njobvuyalema got 320 votes.

But Njobvuyalema disputed the results, forcing MCP to institute an investigation on the matter.

Announcing the results on Monday, MCP through its its Publicity Secretary hon Maurice Munthali said that let it be publicly known and officially recorded that Hon Edward Chileka Banda emerged the winner during the said primary elections.

“We have come to conclusion that Edward Chileka won the Primary elections.

“As MCP we will recognize Mr. Chikeka as a winner and is the one we will represent MCP in the constituency in the forthcoming 2019 polls,” said Munthali.

Effort to talk to Njobvuyalema proved futile.
