Raphael January of Mitabale village traditional authority Chimaliro in Thyolo is currently in Police custody at Blantyre for allegedly stabbing to death his colleague at a beer drinking joint.
”On Saturday September 8, 2018 around 1900 hours, deceased Trouble Mataya 28 left home for a beer drinking spree with his friend within Ndirande township where he was staying.
After taking the heavy drinks for a considerable time, the two decided to attend traditional dances commonly known as Mchezo (Manganje)” Sub-Inspector Augustus Nkhwazi narrated.
”It is believed that at the dance at Safarao, the two met the suspect (Raphael).
It is alleged Mataya and Raphael picked a quarrel. In a rage of anger, suspect took a hammer and screw driver, stabbed Mataya im the chest and fled.” He added.
The victim was rushed to Ndirande healthy center by relatives after collapsing upon reaching home.
He died while receiving treatment. Postmortem conducted at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital indicated Mataya died of Haemorrhage.
The suspect was apprehended by Police at Goliati trading centre in Thyolo where he fled to after the incident.
The deceased hailed from Manolo village traditional authority Chikowi in Zomba. Raphael January is expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of murder contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, angry people descended on the property of the suspect where they looted his house destroying his property in the process.
Police condemns this act of lawlessness. People should desist from taking the law into their own hands but rather let the law to take its course.
