The Malawi Police Service (MPS) have accused Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) governor for the South Charles Mchacha of fueling the Wednesday fracas that happened at Bvumbwe Trading Centre in Thyolo.

Hell broke loose at Bvumbwe Trading Centre after one of the police officers beat up a cyclist identified as Fletcher Frackson for allegedly crossing the roadblock while riding the bicycle.

According to information at hand, the cyclist was left unconscious and the development angered the angry community who retaliated by pelting stones at the police.

The angry mob went further by setting ablaze the police unit situated at Bvumbwe Trading Centre.

But a police report released on Thursday made available to faceofmalawi reporter, Mchacha has been accused of perpetrating the violence.

“Facts of the case are as follows . On 19/09/2018 at about 0600hours S/Insp Mpaha. NO A9402 A/D/Sgt Chisale and const Mpusa reports On duty from 0600hours to 1400hours. While performing their work at about 0700hours they came across Favour Fraction, 18years, Village William 2 T/A Bvumbwe, Dist Thyolo student at pact Private school who just passed the roadblock whilst riding his bicycle insulting the officers who were manning the roadblock.

“Then NO A9402 A/D/Sgt Chisale arrested the suspect who was later placed in custody. The people surrounding the place started stoning the police officer in order the suspect Favour to be released by force. Later they burned tyres, closing the road whilst chanting songs,” reads in part the report.

Added the report: “Whilst there the DPP regional governor for south Mr Nchancha came in and talked to the angry mob who at the end provoked the situation and run away while the angry mob were burning tyres and broke passer by vehicles.”

Effort talk to Mchacha on the matter proved futile.

Meanwhile the police have arrested some of the suspects who are suspected to be ring leaders.
