17 people have been arrested in connection to the Bvumbwe fracas that occurred yesterday, 19th September 2018.
Police have given names of five suspects from the seventeen as Hawadi Thangata, 43, Lonjezo Million, 26, James Godfrey, 25, Raphael Soda, 35, Kelvin Riddick, 25 and 12 others who damaged Bvumbwe police station by stoning the office roof and all Windows of the office.
According to some community members, one of the officers at the police station allegedly beat up a cyclist identified as Favour Fraction aged 18 who was crossing a police roadblock at the trading centre injuring him in process.
This angered onlookers who were later joined by scores of others from the trading centre who pelted stones at the police station and blocked the Thyolo Road with huge stones and tree branches.
Police tried to fire in the air to calm situation and managed to arrest the said and mentioned suspects who happened to be the ring leaders.
The victim, Favour was interviewed and discovered to be of unsound mind and later was issued with a medical report for treatment and check up at Thyolo Dist Hospital.
The suspects are currently at Limbe police and they will appear before court to answer their charges.
