A 23 year old man identified as Christopher Piyo has committed suicide at Liwonde Township for lacking transport money to go back to his base, Blantyre.
Machinga Police Public Relations Officer Davie Sulumba confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi.
Preliminary investigations showed that the deceased who is from Blantyre married a woman at Mangochi turn off and went there to visit her; but failed to go back home due to financial problem and decided to hang himself to run away from the bondage of poverty.
According to Mr Jonathan Dinesi, a businessman at Mangochi turn off, the deceased was spotted hanging dead under a roof of uncompleted house on15th October, 2018 near Mpaweni Motel.
The matter was reported to Liwonde Police who visited the scene and found that the deceased used his t-shirt to hang himself.
Upon searching his pockets, they found National Registration Identity Card and a driver’s licence bearing his names and also a suicide note written in vernacular language saying
“ine kwathu ndi ku Blantyre kuno ndabwelera akazi anga Transport yopitira kwathu ku Blantyre ndilibe kuno anthu sakudimvesa; he finished by asking his son Dan kuti amphunzile kukhala olimba mtima,” read in part the suicide note.
The body of the deceased was taken to Machinga District Hospital and postmortem results proved that death was due to suffocation and he was positively identified by his relatives.
Christopher Piyo hailed from Chiswe village in the area of Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre.
Police is therefore urging the community to share their problems to their friends for a problem shared is half solved.
