Police in Ntcheu are keeping in custody two men for allegedly killing a 20 year old man, Yohane Haward.
Ntcheu Police station Deputy Spokesperson, Rebecca Kwisongole identified the suspects as Samuel Kachiswa, 28 and Lazalo Sikweya, 20 both from Kaimaima village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kwataine in the district.
She said the incident happened on the night of October 15, 2018 at around 21:00 hours at Kachiswa’s house.
Kwisongole said the deceased was found inside the bedroom of Kachiswa who was asleep by then, and it is alleged that he mistakenly started caressing the suspect after entering the house.
“It is alleged that the deceased used to go to Kachiswa’s house for drinking as his wife brew local beer. Upon entering the house, the deceased started caressing the suspect thinking he was caressing Kachiswa’s wife,” she explained.
After getting suspicious of the caress, Kachiswa is said to have woken up and grabbed the deceased as he thought it was his wife only to discover that it was a stranger.
Howard is reported to have fled from the house but Kachiswa followed him while shouting for help.
He was then joined by Lazaro, who is his neighbour to help him according to Kwisongole.
She said the two suspects together started assaulting the deceased with a big wooden stick, and then left him unconscious on the scene after catching him after a short distance.
Well-wishers then came and took the deceased to the hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to police.
Postmortem conducted by health personnel at Ntcheu District Hospital revealed that death was due to head injury following an assault.
The Police said the two will appear before court to answer a charge of murder which is contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.
