A man is in police cell in the capital Lilongwe for allegedly impersonating a lawyer during court proceedings.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press on Tuesday and identified the suspect as Yohane Somanje.

According to Dandaula, the suspect was representing a suspect in case which was in the Lilongwe Magistrate court.

He said the suspect was arrested after the presiding magistrate got suspicious with how he was handling legal issues in the case such as using incorrect language.

Dandaula said the presiding Magistrate adjourned the case after noting the anomaly and tipped the police to interrogate the suspect.

“After interrogation it was revealed that Somanje was not a lawyer hence the arrest,” said Dandaula in the interview.
Meanwhile the suspect will appear in court soon.
