Well-known comedian Eric Mabedi, popularly known as Jakobo is yet to leave the country for India where he is expected to undergo a Kidney transplant.

Mabedi was expected to leave the country yesterday, October 28, 2018 as earlier communicated by Ministry of Health (MoH) spokesperson Joshua Malango.

Friends of Eric Mabedi, Higger Mkandawire confirmed of the development in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS), saying Mabedi is yet to leave the country.

Mkandawire expressed his sadness, saying the delay may have an effect on Mabedi’s life.

“Since we have not received any word suggesting the contrary from the initial arrangement, we are sticking with the commitment they made. As a group we are patiently waiting and we remain grateful to the government for its intervention,” said Mkandawire.

When contacted for comment Malango said government is waiting for a report from India on the matter.

Malango said the ministry submitted all the paper work concerning Mabedi to the relevant hospital authorities in India and are still waiting for a response hence the inactivity.

Mabedi’s trip to India will cost government money amounting to MK20 million.

Mabedi is one of the directors of one of the oldest drama groups in the country Kwathu Drama Group, and is also the current president for the National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam). He was recently appointed board chairperson of the Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma).
