Several passengers have escaped with various degrees of injuries after an AXA bus they were travelling overturned at Chingeni last night.
Police officials have confirmed of the accident, saying the bus was travelling from Blantyre heading to Mzuzu.
According to information at hand, the driver of the bus trying to avoid a drunkard person and in the process he lost control of the vehicle and in the process the bus overturned.
No loss of life has been reported so far.
In a related development, two separate accidents have occurred at Linthipe 3 in Dedza where one person is reported to have sustained serious injuries.
Dedza Police Deputy Publicist Cassim Manda says the accidents occurred at Mpinji near Linthipe 3 bridge in the district but only one person was injured while the vehicles suffered extensive damage.
The first accident took place around 8 o’clock in the evening and involved a truck and a small vehicle. According to Manda, the freightliner truck was being driven by a Mozambican national Avalo Domingos while the small vehicle, a Nissan UD was being driven by Abdul Hussain.
According to Manda, Domingo was driving from Dedza towards Lilongwe and upon arrival at the accident spot, he started overtaking a vehicle and in the process collided with a motor vehicle registration number ZA4057,forcing him to swerve to the rear side lane of the road. Manda says all drivers escaped with no injuries.
The second accident occured at the same place around 10 O’clock in the evening and involved a freightliner truck driven by Gift Masonga and a Scania van, registration number BT 8795, driven by Will Maneya and a freightliner truck driven by Taurai Rait Bandula from Mozambique.
Masonga was driving from the direction of Dedza to Lilongwe and upon reaching Mpinji village, he saw a minibus which was heading the same direction but due to speeding, the driver swerved to offside lane where he hit another vehicle. All the drivers escaped unhurt but a passenger in one of the vehicles sustained a cut on his left foot.
