Unknown man who slept on the road after getting heavily drunk was ran over by a speeding motor vehicle in the early hours of Friday at Chintheche near PVHO.

Nkhatabay police station public relations officer, Kondwani James has confirmed of the incident and said the particulars of the driver of the vehicle are also not known.

According to James, the driver was on the stated date driving unknown vehicle from Nkhata Bay direction heading Dwangwa along Nkhata Bay – Dwangwa M5 road.

“Upon reaching Chintheche Trading Center near PVHO, he ran over the person whose particulars are not known. He died on the spot,”explained James.

Further police investigation established that the deceased was drinking beer at a nearby Trading Centre and as he was heading back home, he slept on the road due to drunkenness.

He sustained multiple fractures on both arms and legs, a cut on the head and a deep cut on the stomach.

Reports reached Chintheche police post who rushed to the scene and later took the body to Chintheche Rural Hospital for identification.

Meanwhile, police in the district are advising people to take caution when they are drunk.
