A man only identified as Andrew Mafuli died on Thursday evening after a vehicle he was travelling in threw him out following a road accident along Blantyre-Chikwawa road.

According to Chikwawa police public relations officer, Foster Benjamin, the incident occurred close to Thabwa roadblock at around 5 pm.

The deceased was aboard a Toyota Dyna 2-tonner as a passenger.

“Mafuli and another passenger named Mike Matimati, 37, were travelling in Daniel Msinga’s vehicle on their way from Blantyre.

“Msinga, while descending the last escarpment, suddenly lost control of the vehicle following faulty brakes,” said the PRO.

The vehicle veered off the road to the far left, leaving the deceased hitting the hard surface.

He sustained severe head injuries and died a few minutes later while on the way to the hospital.

The driver and the other passenger escaped with minor injuries. .

The vehicle, registration number ZA 2935 got extensively damaged.

Meanwhile, police in the district are urging motorists to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy to avoid fatalities on the road.
