President of the Malawi Congress Party John Tembo says he is ready to lead the party in 2014 general elections if he is elected at the convention.

Tembo, aged 80, is facing pressure from the party’s youthful members, who are calling for his resignation as president.

The MCP leader is however downplaying the calls describing them as unprocedural.

Speaking in an exclusive interview at his area 10 residence in Lilongwe, Tembo, who is also leader of the opposition in parliament, said he will follow the wishes of the party supporters at the convention.
