Female politicians in the country are mobilising themselves for a protest match in a week’s time over the escalating violence in the country.

They further plan to petition both State President Peter Mutharika and the Inspector General of Police Rodney Jose as one way of expressing their displeasure over the development.

Addressing the press in Lilongwe, they singled out the undressing and beating of a woman in Mangochi as worrisome, allegedly by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets in the lakeshore district.

Lucy Mauluka, who read out the concerns on behalf of the women, said it is sad that the police have not made any arrest on the matter.

Some of the notable faces of the female politicians, who addressed a press briefing in Lilongwe, are Chairperson of the parliamentary women caucus and Salima North West legislator Jessie Kabwila, Balaka West Parliamentarian Patricia Dzimbiri, Lilongwe City Council Deputy Mayor Juliana Kaduya who belongs to Malawi Congress Party, Mulanje West Parliamentarian Patricia Kaliati and Mary Chilima who is wife to the country’s Vice President Saulos Chilima.
