Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that suspected Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) youth cadets on Monday attacked an independent MP for Nkhata Bay West, Mr. Commodious Nyirenda.
According to information at hand, the DPP cadets attacked Nyirenda in full view of police officers.
Nyirenda confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying the incident happened at a police check point in Nkhata Bay.
The Shadow MP alleged the thugs are loyalists of his political rival, DPP aspirant for the same constituency, Mr. Julius Chione, whom he says is baying for his blood.
But Mr. Chione has distanced himself from the attack, accusing Mr. Nyirenda of playing victim on the matter.
Meanwhile Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya has expressed shock of the matter, saying things are now getting out of hand.
Msowoya has since asked the Inspector General of Police Rodney Jose to arrest the culprits of resign.
