A 7-year old primary school pupil died on Saturday after being hit by a speeding vehicle in Chikwawa district.

Chikwawa police station public relations officer, Foster Benjamin identified the deceased as Hope Mikison who was in standard 2 at Chidyamanga primary school.

Benjamin said Hope met his fate at Nsangwe Trading Centre along Nchalo-Bangula road.

“A Toyota Hilux, registration number LL 7304 and driven by Ackim Phiri, 36, of Action Aid Nsanje, was reportedly cruising from Bangula towards Ngabu direction.

“Upon reaching Nsangwe Trading Centre, Phiri hit Mikison who was crossing from left to right, ” explained the PRO.

He said following the impact, the pupil sustained severe head injuries.

He was immediately rushed to Ngabu Rural Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased hailed from Madula village in the area of Senior Chief Ngabu in Chikwawa District.

Meanwhile, police are calling on motorists to observe speed limits especially when heading into trading centres in the district.
