On Wednesday and Thursday, 40 journalists from the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation have been undergoing an elections reporting training courtesy of Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IPWPR), in readiness for the May 21 Tripartite Elections.

“There is always big expectation from the public on how MBC as a public broadcaster covers elections. We are always under fire because of elections. Elections are a highly tensed event because people are competing.

Those in power want to protect themselves while others are seeking the same power. Conflicts are inevitable,” said MBC Director General Aubrey Sumbuleta.

The training comes barely a month after the broadcaster deployed 25 news stringers, specifically employed to cover the elections, in all districts in the country.
