Minister of Health and Population Atupele Muluzi has said Malawi will make record keeping health services digital to improve efficiency due to introduction of national Identity Cards (ID) and Smartcards.

Muluzi made these remarks during a symposium in Lilongwe on Thursday where heath sector donors and Ministry of Health discussed how to level up heath system.

According to Muluzi Health digitalization can bring out a number of successes.

He further said it is in line with World Health Organization’s (WHO) desire for members of state across the world to achieve universal health coverage by 2030.

“Digitilization of patient health records will improve management of health outcomes and the referral process,” Muluzi said.

Germany Embassy Health Donors Committee’s Chairperson, Thomas Staiger hailed the initiative saying it will help Malawi in maximizing efficiency.

However, no Malawian is denied access to health facilities for the lack of national ID
