Airtel Malawi through its Airtel Money Trust has donated computers to Milonga community college in Tradition Authority (T/A) Milonga, Thyolo.
Airtel Malawi Corporate Communications and CSR Manager Norah Chavula Chirwa said Airtel’s role is to ensure that people living in communities are being uplifted and developed.
“We have a corporate social responsibility to play in education and health sector and that is why after going through Ministry of Education who recommended community colleges in need of support we thought of ICT infrastructures specifically computers and internet connectivity,” Said Chirwa.
The college principle, Lawson Soka expressed his gratitude towards the donation saying it will help relieving challenges the college has been facing due to lack of computers and internet.
“With the resources we have received we will now be able to send and receive emails and download learning materials which is essential for students to enhance their skills,” said Soka.
He further said that they will open a website for students to be accessing the school’s information.
“We will also open a website for the school where everyone can find information about the school,” he said
As one way one of generating money for the school Soka also said that they will open a business center.
“We want to allow community members to come in and access internet at a reasonable fee while we raise money to help our day to day activities,” he said.
Milonga community college Students Union president Lemiton Kufeyani thanked Airtel for the donation and promised to use the computers to its intended purpose.
“The computers will surely be used for its intended purpose and we will take care of the gadgets,” Promised kufeyani.
Airtel also donated computers to Lilongwe Technical College two weeks ago and the exercise will be extended to other colleges.
