The Anti-Corruption Bureau has warned chiefs to desist from receiving bribes from political parties during the campaign period.

The remarks were made by ACB public education officer Chifundo Sohaya in Mchinji at Traditional Authority (T/A) Zulu.

Sohaya said it is a crime for chiefs to advise their subject to vote for a particular candidate just because he gave them handouts.

Sohaya warned the chiefs that if they will be caught in a bribery case they will be fined K500, 000 or in default they will serve two years in prison.

Joackim Jere one of the villagers hailed MEC for the meeting describing it as an eye opener.

“The meeting was an eye opener, I have benefited a lot,” Jere said.

During the meeting people were also oriented on the voting procedures.
