Government has warned the public against abuse of social media by propagating offensive and fake news.

The warning has been issued by Minister of Information and Communication Technology Henry Mussa.

Mussa has described the tendency as Counter-productive.

According to Mussa, people are still abusing social media despite efforts by some stakeholders to address the problem.

Mussa further said that government will soon put measures to punish people who will be found abusing social media.

“The government will soon devise measures to put laws in place that will see such people being punished,” Mussa said.

The warning has come following the arrest of Tumpale Mwakikunga who was arrested for likening First Lady Gertrude Mutharika to a cartoon.
