Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli is expected to leave the country having failed to discuss Lake Malawi wrangles with President Peter Mutharika.
Magufuli had a two day visit in the country upon invitation by President Mutharika.
Tanzania and Malawi on Wednesday held talks and signed a wide range of issue including trade and culture sidelining the issue of the lake which nearly brought the two neighboring countries to war.
Principle Secretary for the Ministry of foreign affairs Ben Botolo said the issue of the lake was not included on the table.
Failure to tackle the issue concerning Lake Malawi by the two Heads of state, analysts’ in the country have described the development as a missed opportunity to both countries.
“We should realize that we, Africans should not be influenced by foreign external forces on the issue of the lake. Malawi and Tanzania are the best to solve the issues themselves,” political analyst George Phiri said.
He added, “It was a lost opportunity that Mutharika and Magufuli swept the issue under the carpet during their bilateral discussions,”
Magufuli is expected to leave the country today after he opened Tobacco Auction Floors.
