At least 20 people have been rescued from flooding water at Limphasa River in Nkhata Bay.

District Commissioner for Nkhata Bay Rodney Simwaka confirmed the development.

Simwaka said the people had been trapped for hours before the marine department sent a rescue team.

He further added that people who were rescued were farmers who went for their usual business in their rice farms.

The river burst following a heavy downpour as an effect of tropical cyclone Kenneth that is affecting some parts of the Northern region. &*׎
