Bunda College of Agriculture, a constituency college of the newly introduced Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources has emerged tops in the agricultural service providers’ category at the ongoing National Agricultural Fair in Malawi. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Professor Peter Mwanza disclosed this during the official opening of Malawi’s 9thNational Agricultural Fair at the Chichiri Trade Fair grounds in Blantyre, where the country’s state vice president Khumbo Kachale officially opened the fair Thursday August 23 2012 afternoon.
“In the best service providers category it is Bunda College of agriculture and I request the vice president right honorable Khumbo Kachale to present them with a trophy,” The Minister announced.
Until last year, Bunda College was one of the constituency colleges of the University of Malawi, and admits students who do faculties that have to do with agriculture. Other colleges under the new University are Natural Resources College (NRC), formerly Colby College, and Agriculture Research and Extension Trust (Aret). The Agriculture and Food Security Minister also announced that National smallholder Farmers Association of Malawi (Nasfam) is the best Agro processing organization, while Nkhulambe Rice Producers’ has come out tops in the Farmers category with ATC (Agricultural Trading Company) clinching the best suppliers of inputs category.
The National Agriculture Fair is an annual public event providing players with a forum to showcase equipments, animals, crops and recreation associated with agriculture. This year’s Fair is running under the theme “Agricultural Productivity: The foundation of Industrialization” and is being co-hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
