Joyce Banda and her deputy Khumbo Kachali were confirmed as People’s Party(PP) president and vice president respectively at the party’s first ever convention.

But its the new comers Cassim Chilumpha who stole the show and won the second vice presidency while the other new comer Sidik Mia won PP’s third vice president.

Chilumpga defeated anothe new comer Uladi Mussa from the Maravi party and Mia defeated seasoned politician cum priest Brown Mpinganjira.

Mpinganjira is one of the founders of PP and was the party’s treasurer general, but wanted a higher post.

Sidik Mia’s wife fed the delegates for charity and they might have responded in kind, but Mpinganjira’s track record might have played a big part.

Henry Chibwana retained his position of secretary general. George Zulu is his deputy.

Chilumpha and Mia defected to Peoples Party from the UDF and the DPP respectively soon after Mutharika’s death as did many others dubbed atidyenawo , hunting for govt posts and favours.

The complete list of elected officials will be available in the week.
