Police in Lilongwe have arrested a young man at Chimutu School, a centre near Area 18A for allegedly taking pictures of the ballot paper after voting for a candidate of his choice.

It is said people became suspicious of the man as he was taking longer than anybody else in the booth.

The polling staff discovered him taking shots and immediately alerted security officers manning the centre to interrogate him.

Pictures of already ticked ballot papers have been circulating this morning on social media.

It is said some voters are allegedly taking the pictures after voting for their preferred candidates and sending them to their friends to see.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah has since appealed to the general public to resist from such malpractice.

Ansah condemned the malpractice during a press briefing which is under way in Comessa, Blantyre
