Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Justice Jane Ansa has warned against early victory celebration that is being done by some people in the country.

Ansa made the remarks during a press briefing at the main tally center in COMESA Blantyre.

In her remarks Ansa advised people to wait for the official results citing that it is only 20 percent of the votes that have been counted.

“Please wait for the official results. Wait for the commission to announce the results. The mandate to announce the results lies with the commission,” said Ansa.

It is believed that some people across the country including supporters of the ruling Democratic Party (DPP) are holding victory celebrations.

It is also said that Cornelius Mwalwanda’s supporters are celebrating victory over unofficial results that Mwalwanda is leading in Karonga Central constituency. ޤK
