Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters have stormed the street of Ntcheu District protesting the outcome of the May 21 tripartite election which saw President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika being declared winner.

The protest in Ntcheu comes barely hours after MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera announced that he has started a three day fasting over the outcome of the polls.

MCP and United Transformation Movement (UTM) supporters are against the polls results accusing the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of the rigging the May 21 polls.

The two parties have since filed a lawsuit to the High Court.

Despite the court case, MCP supporters have been holding demonstrations country wide the latest being today’s protest in Ntcheu.

Heavily armed and unarmed police officers are accompanying the demonstrators who intend to present a petition at Ntcheu District Commissioner’s office.

The protesters are chanting anti-Mutharika songs while praising their leader Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
